Modern wedding venue in Sussex

Limekiln opened its doors in March 2024 and invited me to Crowborough in East Sussex to look around. The friendly staff greeted me at the door and walked me to Kiln Bar to tell me more over a coffee. The decor of this 300-capacity venue is exquisitely detailed and surrounded by 60 acres of private land and a nine-hole golf course. This new wedding venue, located just outside Tunbridge Wells, should be on the “must-view” list of every engaged couple in the southeast.

Here’s why this newly opened wedding venue is already my favourite space for engaged couples in Sussex.

Bright Wedding ceremony space

I’m just going to come out and say this in the hopes it doesn’t upset my friends at other local wedding venues: the Alder Room is one of my favourite ceremony spaces in the South East. It’s spacious and bright but somehow still feels cosy and full of character. With space to seat 180 for a ceremony or 105 for dining, A large window looking out towards a forest complements skylights, allowing all the light you’ll need for your wedding to be spectacular. One of the first things that you notice as you enter the large double doors at the rear of the room is the high ceilings and modern exposed ducting; they add a touch of grandeur to the venue without it becoming overly opulent. Something that struck me as a photographer is an area you’ll wait in before you walk down the aisle to say your I do’s is covered, so not only will you be safe from the elements, but that nice photograph of you walking into the room will look even better because of the shade.

Stylish Bar & Courtyard

The waiting area for your loved ones is ideally located between all the main spaces. It’s full of sofas and tables for them to relax and catch up over a cocktail from the classicly styled Kiln Bar, stocked with all the ingredients to shake up your favourite sippers. The glass doors open on both sides to the courtyard, and the beautifully kept garden has outdoor seating for sun lovers and shaded areas for those looking for some fresh air, as well as a statement firepit for those long summer evenings. Having a variety of spaces for your guests to mingle together changes the vibe of your wedding. This way, nobody feels penned in, and you’ll find people naturally going exploring and will come back full of compliments about your choice of wedding venue.

There are plenty of rooms for you and your bridal party to get ready on-site in The Apartment, a stylish space split over two floors. Limekiln’s preparation rooms are furnished with huge mirrors, sofas where you can chill, a salon chair with a hairdresser’s sink and lit mirrors, and a stylish bath that will make you feel like a movie star. The rooms have stereos and loads of space for your make-up artist to spread out so you get ready for your wedding in style while the champagne flows.

Wedding Breakfast

The staff at Limekiln are experts in catering. You’ll find you’ll be well cared for when the time comes to sit for your wedding breakfast and soak up those glasses of champagne you’re bound to indulge in with your family and friends. The Poplar Room is packed with Mediterranean charm and gorgeous chandeliers. It has a huge window facing the front of the venue and plenty of natural light pouring in from the sides, and can host up to 195 for a seated meal and 300 for your drinks reception.

Late-night Lounge

Unlike many wedding venues, you’ll be partying the night away in a different room to your wedding breakfast. This means near-zero turnaround time to prepare the venue for your evening entertainment and making your timeline in the evening far less awkward. The darker walls and smoked mirrors add to the classy nighttime bar vibes for your first dance and throwing shapes with your closest friends.
