How to keep your wedding photographs safe

Your wedding day is one of the milestone moments. A day you and your loved ones will recall fondly for the rest of your lives. You'll tell your children stories about it, and in a few decades, you'll repeat these stories to your grandchildren. How much better will your stories be with professional photographs?

Digital Photos

It's nice to have digital versions of your wedding photos. You can look at them wherever you are and share them with your family and friends. You can even set them as the backgrounds on your phone, tablet, and computer. But, I strongly suggest you keep multiple backups. How many people do you know who lost a phone or had a laptop turn into a costly paperweight? People lose precious memories all the time. It would be tragic to lose your wedding photographs.

I host my couples' wedding photographs till their first anniversary on an online gallery. From here, you can download and store them safely. You can also keep your gallery live for another year for a small fee. It's a good idea to have them in as many places as possible; you never know what might happen to digital files.

Prints

Most people stopped printing their photos after digital photography became more popular than analogue film; I think this is a shame. It’s one of the reasons I still shoot analogue film at some weddings. A photograph should be physical. When you can touch and feel your wedding photographs, they take on their own life. Maybe your parents still have albums full of six by four inch photos of your childhood? Those snapshots give you a different feeling when you look at them, right? We're tactile animals. We bond through touch. You hold and kiss your loved ones. I believe we connect deeply with printed photographs because they are the physical embodiment of a moment.

Every grandparent seems to have a wall dedicated to their family. It's a family tree full of cheeky smiles in mismatched frames. What's the point of having all these photos if you aren't going to look at them.

You're probably spending a small fortune on your wedding - you don't want to fall at the final hurdle. The rubbish photo machines at your local supermarket won't show off your professional photographs, and they'll degrade over the years. I print everything in my store at a professional photo lab.

A high-quality print will easily last over one hundred years if properly looked after. And caring for printed photos is easy - keep them clean and don't store them in direct sunlight - Way easier than looking after digital files!

Options

I'll send you a link to your personalised online gallery four to eight weeks after your wedding, ready for sharing with anyone you like. You and your loved ones can also upload your own photographs to your gallery from the day. They'll live in their own section of the gallery.

You'll also have access to your very own store where you can order prints from my professional printing labs with lots of options like paper type, frames, and size. You can also get greetings cards, magazines, and albums.

Most of my couples get a fine-art wedding album. It's my favourite way to store wedding photographs because you can share the experience of enjoying it with your loved ones. Having your photos framed on the walls is a lovely constant reminder of your special day, but looking through an album is a more deliberate way of reliving those magical moments. You won't look through it every day (well, you will for the first month or so), but you'll defiantly grab it off the shelf when your friends visit from out of town and when you're celebrating your anniversary or feeling sentimental. Albums make fantastic gifts for your parents and grandparents too.

I love editing photo books! I can get nerdy with you and help order your perfect wedding album. You'll be able to make changes within your online gallery, updating the layout of the photographs using drag and drop and updating the design with your preferred materials and colours.
